What Are Dental Crowns?
January 31, 2022 11:03 pmDo you have a broken or damaged tooth? Has your dentist told you that you may need a dental crown? Thanks to many advancements in restorative dentistry, we can now repair your smile with a custom-made, tooth-colored dental crown!
What Can Dental Crowns Fix?
First things first, it’s important to understand what crowns are for. Dental crowns are an incredibly versatile dental treatment that can fix a wide range of dental issues, such as:
- Broken Teeth
- Cracked Teeth
- Misshapen Teeth
- Severely Discolored Teeth
- Weakened Teeth After Root Canal Therapy
- Replace Missing Teeth with Bridges or Implants
- And More!
How Do Dental Crowns Work?
During your first crown visit at Megan Jones, DDS, our team will prepare your tooth for the crown. We’ll take an impression of your prepared tooth and send it off to a dental lab for creation. As we send the impression of your prepared tooth to a high-quality local lab, we’ll place a temporary crown to help protect the tooth until the permanent crown comes in.
In many cases, patients receive their custom-made dental crown during their second visit. Our team will remove the temporary crown during your second crown visit and securely place your new dental crown. With proper care, your new dental crown can last decades!
