What are the benefits of implant-supported dentures?

Implant-supported dentures combine many of the benefits that dental implants offer with the benefits of dentures. Traditional ones rest on top of the gums and can be held in place using a denture adhesive. This can work well for some patients, but in other cases, the denture may not feel very stable, and the adhesive can be messy and difficult to clean every day. Since they attach to implants, they feel very stable in the mouth, and there’s no grimy denture adhesive to worry about.

What is the process for receiving implant-supported dentures?

Before you can begin using your custom dentures near you, a few implants will need to be strategically placed throughout the arch. The recovery process after this takes a few weeks as your gums heal and the implants fuse with the jawbone. During this time, your custom denture will begin to be designed and created so that it is ready to wear as quickly as possible. We will have you try your new dentures on in our office and make any necessary modifications so that they look and feel great, and then you are free to show off your new smile!

How are dentures cared for?

Taking care of dentures is pretty different from taking care of natural teeth. Patients should always remove them before brushing them with a denture cleaner or mild dish soap and rinse them thoroughly before placing them back in. They also need to be soaked overnight so they can stay moist and maintain their custom shapes. Soaking them in a denture solution will help to kill bacteria, resulting in extra clean dentures. If the appearance ever starts to look dull, there are also denture whitening products you can use to make them look like new again.
